*Obsessão* *Obsession*

Quando estou a fazer algo de que gosto mesmo torna-se uma obsessão terminar essa mesma coisa, por isso hoje passei o dia agarrada à máquina de costura :-) - o tempo também não esteve para grandes passeios, por isso não sinto que tenha perdido nada. O resultado está à vista: o topo do quilt da minha afilhada está quase acabado. Tenho a certeza de que ela irá gostar.

When I'm through something that I really like it becomes almost an obsession to finish it, and that's why I spent the day at the sewing machine :-) - the weather wasn't fabulous to go anywhere so I don't feel I've missed anything.  This is what I achieved today: the top quilt I'm making for my goddaughter is nearly finished. I'm sure she'll love it.

Quando começo alguma coisa de que gosto mesmo, levo-a até ao fim quase como uma obsessão, e é o que tem acontecido com os quilts que tenho feito. Ainda não foram muitos, nem muito complexos, mas têm sido para pessoas por quem nutro especial carinho. O que comecei ontem não é excepção, pois destina-se à minha afilhada e dando asas a todas as suas "princesices" não podia ter escolhido outra cor que não o rosa. Mais uns dias e fica pronto!

When I begin something I really like I have to finish it almost immedialtly as if it was an obsession, and this has happened with all the quilts I've made so far. I haven't made many, yet or too complex but all of them were made to some beloved people. The one I started yesterday is not an exception, as it is for my goddaughter and due to all her "princessish likes" I couldn't have chosen another colour but pink.

Give me a few days more and it will be finished!

*O frio já chegou* *Winter is here*

Quem não gosta de se sentir confortável e quentinho durante o Inverno que levante o dedo....Bem me parecia...não vejo mãos no ar.

Quem não gosta de lenços, echarpes, cachecóis? Hummm, parece-me que a resposta é igual à anterior :-)

E quem é que não se debate constantemente com as pontas dos cachecóis que, ora fazem muito volume para ficarem bem enroladas, ora ficam penduradas a ver-se bebaixo dos casacos, ora ficam presas nos lugares mais estranhos?

Foi a pensar nisto tudo que a Vânia desenvolveu estas golas confeccionadas a partir de fazenda de lã, algodão e melton. Têm a particularidade de serem reversíveis, além de serem muiitoooo quentinhas.

Querem saber onde é que ela se inspirou? Então vão ter de esperar pelo próximo post :-), não é mana?

And who's never fought against loose ends under the coats or hanging out of them or extra volume around ones necks?

Thinking about all these issues, Vânia developed these cowls made out of tweeds, cottons and melton. They are not only reversible, but also very comfortable.

Sempre a correr * Always in a rush

Quem me conhece sabe que ando sempre a correr e tenho quase sempre pressa de chegar a algum lugar. Como diz a mãe, se o dia tivesse 48 horas não me chegava. :)

Como trabalho durante o dia todo, o tempo que me resta para a vida pessoal é dividido entre todas as tarefas domésticas, aulas de desenho, diário gráfico, costuras, lomografia, leituras e um café ou outro por aí. Os dias são muito curtos, sempre uma correria! Mas hoje consegui encaixar uns minutos para o blog na minha escassa hora de almoço (já depois de ter ido ao talho, ter cozinhado e ter almoçado!).

Ontem à noite estive a mexer nos meus diários gráficos e resolvi fotografá-los para partilhar convosco alguns "segredos". Embora o conteúdo seja o que importa, as capas nunca são deixadas em branco, e sofrem sempre uma "intervenção artística". Além do diário que trago na mala, costumo ter também um caderninho para outros apontamentos. O que utilizo actualmente foi decorado com este fio da retrosaria ali do lado.

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm always in a rush and I'm always in a hurry to get somewhere. As my mother says, if the day had 48 hours it still wouldn't be enough. :)

Because I work all day long, the time I have for personal life is divided among all the housekeeping to dos, drawing classes, my sketchbook, sewing, lomography, some readings and sometimes a coffee in centre of Lisbon. The days are too short, it's always a rush! :) But today I managed to fit a few minutes into my short lunch break to prepare this post  (after having already gone to the butcher, cooked and had lunch!).

Last night I was arranging my sketchbooks and I decided to photograph them to share some "secrets"with you. Although the content is what really matters, the covers are never left in blank, and always suffer an "artistic intervention". Apart from the sketchbook I bring in my purse, I usually have a little notebook to take some other notes. The one I'm using now has been customised with this thread from the  haberdashery around the corner.

*Vinho e Tapas* *Wine and Tapas*

No Sábado descobri um novo ponto de paragem em Loulé. Chama-se VENDA, à moda antiga e lá dentro temos a sensação de que entrámos num pequeno e acolhedor refúgio. Entre produtos regionais, alguns vinhos e alguns petiscos, ladeado por uma agradável esplanada, promete ser um espaço agradável para se estar com amigos entre dois dedos de conversa.

Tudo está para venda, inclusivamente a mobília!

Last Saturday I found a new place to go for a glass of wine and some tapas. It's called VENDA and it's right in the centre of Loulé. If you're near or ever come here, I promisse it's worth a visit :-)

As fotografias são, para mim, sempre um drama e debato-me constatemente com o facto de não conseguir estar disponível nas horas de "boa luz", ainda assim não me deixo vencer e faço o melhor que consigo :-) e prova disso é este quilt que só foi possível fotografar quase ao lusco-fusco.

Mais uma vez fugi à regra e substituí a parte de trás por um polar cor de rosa com bolas brancas, simplesmente delicioso...e quentinho! :-)

Taking pictures is always a drama to me, because most of the times I'm not available when the light is good, even so I do not give up and I always put on my best effort:-) and to prove that here are the pictures of this quilt taken early this evening.

Once again I bent the rules and I replaced the back by a piece of pink soft dotted fleece. I think it's lovely and very cosy! :-)

A velhinha Oliva esteve hoje a funcionar em pleno :-) Já há algum tempo que não pegávamos nela, pois não estava no melhor local para a utilizarmos com frequência, no entanto durante a tarde de hoje foi mudada para o atelier.

E como funciona bem :-) E como é silenciosa :-) E como é certa :-)

The old Oliva was today worked at full speed :-) It's been a while that we didn't use it because it wasn't very well positioned. This afternoon we moved to where it really belongs.

And it works well :-) And it doens't make any noise :-) And how accurate it is :-)

*A is for Apron*

Há imenso tempo que tinha na ideia fazer um avental, no entanto nunca me tinha dedicado afincadamente ao projecto – até ontem!

Este post no Design Sponge serviu de mote à escolha dos tecidos, e apesar de ter visto imensos tutoriais na internet, acabei por escolher um molde do livro da Lotta – simples e gracioso. A parte da frente em patchwork foi uma forma que arranjei para fazer render os tecidos que tinha, pois como não tenho o hábito de adquirir mais do que meio metro de cada (não gosto de repetir padrões, confesso) nada do que tinha em stock chegava. Assim, apenas comprei o material para fazer um dos lados, pois o avental é reversível.

I've had this in mind for a while but only yesterday I decided to move forward with this project.

This post from Design Sponge was somehow inspiring for the choice of fabrics and depiste the several tutorials I found online I went for a pattern from Lotta's book - simple and precious. The patchwork front was the solution I found to have enough material for the apron, because I never buy more than half a metre of each print (I don't like to repeat prints, I admit). This way I only had to buy fabric for the back - well, the apron is reversible so there isn't a real front or back.

*Winter mood*

Os dias já estão mais pequenos e já se sentem mais frescos, também. Começa a apetecer o aconchego e as roupas mais quentes, por isso, além das golas comecei agora com o tricot. O plano, por enquanto, é fazer um par de mitenes para a Vânia :-) Torcidos, bago-de-arroz, meia, liga e o que me apetecer... Lá pelo Natal devem estar prontas :-P

Days are shorter and cooler.. It's time to start thinking about cosy and warmer clothes and that's why we've been sewing these cowls. I have also started  knitting a pair of mittens for Vânia :-) I'm not following any pattern and I'm letting it flow: cables, seed stitch, purl, knitt, whatever I feel like... I think I'll have them finished for Christmas :-P

*Urban Sketchers Portugal - X ENCONTRO*

O desafio foi lançado há algumas semanas e como não me inscrevi de imediato, já não me coube nenhuma fachada e fiquei antes com uma vista de rua :-) Nem de propósito, pois pude colocar em prática algumas noções de desenho recentemente adquiridas!

A manhã adivinhava chuva, mas mais ou menos o tempo manteve-se estável e ninguém saiu do encontro com o caderno ensopado. Desta vez éramos cerca de 100!!!! Conseguem imaginar 100 pessoas ao longo da Rua Augusta cada uma para seu lado a desenhar? Foi lindo! Não tem explicação possível. Os resultados são maravilhosos e podem ser vistos no blog dos Urban Sketchers Portugal. Vão até lá que vale a pena!

The challenge was launched a few weeks ago and as I took a while to send my application I didn't get any facade to draw, instead I got a street view :-) This was the perfect chance to practise some new things I've just learned!

The weather was unreliable, but it didn't rain (much) while we were drawing and noone left with their sketchbooks soaked. There wer 100 os sketchers in the street!!!! Can you imagine 100 people standing, sitting, whatever... sketching along Rua Augusta? It was amazing!!! I haven't got words to describe it. Há muito tempo que não comia isto e, sinceramente, não me recordo de alguma vez o ter feito. Kaiserschmarrn é daqueles doces que estão guardados na memória e na saudade, pois levam-me de volta aos meses em que fiz Erasmus na Áustria há quase 17 anos. Ontem fui atacada pela nostalgia, procurei algumas receitas e acrescentei um pouco do que ainda trazia no paladar: as nozes e a maçã aos quadradinhos.

It's been a long time that I didn't eat this, and honnestly I don't remember having ever cooked it. Keiserschmarrn is one of those desserts that I keep in my most treasured memories, beacause it reminds me of my Erasmus experience in Austria almost 17 years ago. Yesterday I felt nostalgic about that, so I looked for recipes and added a bit of what I could remember of it: nuts and chopped apple.

This is simply D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S!

Lisboa e Faro: a mana lá e eu cá, certo? Há quem nos pergunte como é que funciona o blog assim. Nem nós sabemos bem, mas a prova de que resulta são as novas golas que acabaram de ser expostas no Etsy :-)

*Sweet Table European Contest*

Desde que a Laure me lançou o desafio para participar no concurso que tenho andado a pensar no assunto e tenho estado muito mais atenta ao que se passa nesse mundo fora. Embora ainda não tenha começado, sequer a praticar e ainda não saiba muito bem o que fazer, achei que seria um bom princípio consultar alguns livros de receitas, a começar pelo meu preferido de sempre e o meu preferido mais recente :-))) ... sendo que também encomendei um terceiro que me faz realmente falta na minha pequena biblioteca. Em simultâneo, e nas horas mortas de almoço, entretenho-me com os meus rabiscos.

Since Laure invited me to participate in this contest that I've been thinking about it and I've been looking around for inspiration. Although I haven't started practising yet and I still don't know what to do, I thought it would be a good start if I begun by looking for recipes in my favourite book ever and in my new favourite book :-))) ... and I also ordered a third one which is missing in my shelf. In the meantime I've been scribbling my sketch book .

Se há algo de que gosto nesta estação do ano, é o regresso ao aconchego e a procura de acessórios que me mantenham confortável: meias, cachecóis, casacos ... Ainda não regressei ao tricot, por isso tenho estado a trabalhar com fazendas de lã, algodões e melton. O resultado são estas golas, que já mostrei há dias, mas que foram finalmente fotografadas e ao longo do serão de hoje serão colocadas na nossa loja. Quem quiser optar por uma clutch, também lá pode ir ver as novidades :-)))

If there is something I like about this time of the year is looking for cosy and comfortable accessories: socks, scarves, coats... I haven't started knitting yet, therefore I've been working with tweeds, cottons and melton. The result are thes cowls, which I showed the other day which have finally been shot and will be displayed in our shop throughout this evening. *Estamos de volta* *We're back*

Não contávamos estar ausentes tantos dias, mas onde estivémos, acreditem, não era fácil conseguir sinal suficiente nem sequer para ver o e-mail. Também soube bem, pois às vezes é necessário fazer uma pausa neste frenesi que é o dia-a-dia. Amanhã contamos com o regresso à normalidade, aos posts regulares e aos crafts que nunca param :-)))

Se há um ponto alto a assinalar nesta ausência esse foi a tarde Domingo :-) abrigadas de uma chuva que teimou em não parar, estivemos em conversa quase interminável com a dupla maravilha Sofia e André (aka BrancoPrata). Não fosse a viagem de regresso, creio que mais tempo tínhamos ficado!

We didn't plan to be away for such a long time, but where we were we could hardly check our e-mail as there was no signal. It felt nice, as sometimes it is necessary to get away from the daily routine. Tomorrow we'll be back to regular posts and also to our crafts :-)))

If we had to choose the best of this weekend we would point out the wonderfult time we spent with the wonder duo Sofia and André (aka BrancoPrata) on Sunday afternoon. If it wasn't for the journey, I believe we would have stayed longer!

Next Saturday, the 9th of October, there will be another sketch crawl  up and down Rua Augusta organised by the Portuguese Urban Sketchers. This time it will be slightly different as you will have to apply in order to be given a facade to draw.
