Saquinhos de alfazema * Lavander sachets

Deve ter sido um hábito deixado pelas avós, pois ainda tenho na memória o cheiro das gavetas do toucador e das cómodas, que mal se abriam sentia-se o perfume - ou a alfazema ou a sabonetes Ach Brito.

Assim, vou pegar nesta alfazema que colhi no Verão e noutra que comprei em Lisboa e fazer saquetas para encher os dias frios de Inverno e perfumar todos os recantos das minhas gavetas.

This is an habit inherited from our grandmothers, as I still have floating in my memory the scent of their chest of drawers and dressing tables - as you opened the drawers you could feel the smell of lavander or Ach Brito soaps.

So, I'm going to use this lavender I picked this Summer add some more I bought in Lisbon and sew some sachets to spread all over my drawers.

A preparar-me para mais um começo * Getting ready for a new beginning

Tenho quase tudo pronto para este novo início. Faltam-me apenas alguns - grandes - detalhes, mas nada que com tempo não se faça. Estou em contagem decrescente para o início de Setembro e depois de uns dias de descanso, vou entrar em modo "non-stop".

Conto convosco por perto, ok? ... e torçam por mim!

I've got almost everything in order for this new beginning. There are only some - big - details aoutstanding, but nothing that I cannot do with a bit of time. At this moment I'm counting down the minutes for September, and after a few peacful days, I'll come back in "non-stop" mode.

I'm counting on you to be around, ok? ... and wish me luck!

Palácio de Estoi

Estando eu tão perto, ainda não lá tinha ido desde que este palácio foi recuperado e transformado em pousada - como é possível??? Não sei!!! A última vez que lá tinha estado deve ter sido há uns 30 anos e foi preciso a Sofia e o André (..e o Fábio! - não me posso esquecer dele :-P) virem cá abaixo para eu lá ir novamente. Não tive oportunidade de tirar fotografias ao interior, mas de certeza que voltarei em breve para o fazer. Até lá deixo-vos algumas imagens do´edifício principal, onde ainda há muito para fazer, especialmente a nível de arranjos exteriores (a.k.a. jardins). O cenário é idílico, e o André fez fotografias que parecem tiradas da série Reviver o Passado em Brideshead.

I'm only 10 minutes away from this palace, but believe me that the last time I went there it was about 30 years ago. In the meantime, it was under reconstruction for several years and for the last two it's been a luxury hotel from Pousadas de Portugal. It was necessary that Sofia and André (..and Fábio, I cannot forget to mention him :-P)came down here for me to go there... I only took pictures of the outside of the main building, where there is still a lot of work to do, mainly in the gardens. This is a stunning place and I plan to go back soon to take some photos inside. You should see the photos André shoot - they look like taken form a scenery of Bridshead Revisited.

Como tinha comentários aqui no blog e na página do FB não consegui usar o random.org, por isso recorri ao velho método dos papelinhos dobrados, salteados e depois escolhi um - sim, tive de ser eu, pois não tinha cá mais ninguém que o fizesse por mim. As there were comments here and in our FB page I couldn't use random.org to find the winner of this necklace, so I had to use the old fashioned way of writing everyone's names in small pieces of paper, mix them and pick one up - yes, I had to do it all by myself as I didn't have anyone around her to help me with this. I could hardly believe when I saw the name of the person that I had just taken, and honnestly I felt tempted to put it back again in the bowl, as it seemed to be on purpuse, as winner has been my friend since we wer 4 years old!!! WIP: a minha manta * WIP: my quilt

As últimas semanas não têm sido nada fáceis, mas dizem que depois da tempestade vem a bonança, e embora eu ainda não tenha a certeza se a tempestade já passou, pelo menos já tenho alguma leveza de espírito para conseguir por em dia encomendas e projectos atrasados... Desde já o meu sincero pedido de desculpas aos lesados :-(

Esta manta está cortada há meses; já esteve programanda umas três vezes, mas só hoje a comecei a coser, segundo um esquema de padrões já diferente dos anteriores.

The past several weeks have been very difficult for me, but people say that after the storm comes a calm, and although I'm not sure if the storm is really over, at least my mind is a bit clearer and I can start making all the orders and projects I have left behind... My apologies to all of you who've been waiting :-(

I begun this quilt months ago; I had it planned for three times now, but only today I started sewing it, following a pattern design completely different from the previous.

Delícias de queijo com amoras * Cheese and mulberry muffins

Hoje de manhã encontrei esta receita através do Pintrest e achei que seria óptima para o lanche. Em vez de uma forma única, dividi a massa por pequenas formas de queque e em cada um acrescentei uma amora - apenas para dar um toque diferente!

This morning I found this recipe through Pintrest and I thought it would be great for tea. Instead of using a big baking tin, I divided the batter into small muffin tins. In each one I added a mulberry - just to give it that little twist that, sometimes, makes the difference!

Um colar novo para amanhã * A new necklace for tomorrow

Há anos que não pegava nos meus FIMOs e ontem quando lhes fui mexer descobri que uma grande parte das pastilhas, ainda novas, estavam muito duras e quase impossíveis de trabalhar. Pesquisei no Google sobre como as amolecer mas nenhuma das soluções encontradas teve os efeitos desejados, até que a mãe me disse para experimentar a juntar umas gotas de vaselina líquida - e não é que resultou?  Fiz as contas e agora, que já estão cozidas, vou fazer um colar para usar amanhã :-)

It's been years since I last worked with FIMO and yesterday I found that most of the new blocks I have were so hard that it was impossible to make anything out of them. I googled for some solutions to make it softer, but none really worked, until my mother told me to add a few drops of vaseline - and you know, what? It worked! Now that the beads are made and out of the oven, I'm going to make a new necklace to wear tomorrow :-)

Retrosaria * Haberdashery

Como já disse há dias estive no Alentejo durante uma semana e no Sábado de manhã aproveitei para ir à "vila" (cidade, afinal, mas tão pequenina...) e tirar umas fotografias. Já no ano passado tinha estado nesta retrosaria, que segundo o actual dono tem "anos sem conta e o chão é centenário", mas na altura não me atrevi a pedir para tirar fotografias - vergonha, sei lá!

O senhor - cujo nome me esqueci de perguntar - gentilmente fez-me uma visita guiada pela loja e no final mostrou-me uma foto dadata dos anos 50 em que ele aparece, ainda como empregado. É giro ver como ainda está tudo tão bem conservado: os balcões de madeira, os vidros irregulares, a cadeira com as almofadas, mas só lá vai ter quem sabe o que está ali, pois do lado de fora nada parece indicar os tesouros que se escondem por trás das portas.

As I said before, I spent a week in the Alentejo and on Saturday I went to the nearest village to take some pictures. A year ago I went to this haberdashery but by then I didn't want to bother the owner  - according to him this place is very old and the floor is more than 100 years old - by asking if I could take some pictures.

This gentleman - whose name I forgot to ask - showed me around and before I left he showed me a picture taken in the 50s where you can see the shop exactly as it is now. It was like traveling back in time: the wooden counter, the chair, the irregular surface of the glasses. And believe me, from the outside no one can guess the treasures hidden behing those doors.

Mais botões antigos * More vintage buttons

É sabido que temos uma perdição por botões antigos, e quando vemos alguns não lhes conseguimos resistir - e há alguém que consiga? Estes comprei-os na sexta-feira e de onde vieram foi tão difícil escolhê-los...nem imaginam, pois eram todos muito bonitos. Eu queria trazer todos mas a dona da loja não me deixou (verdade!)

Everybody knows that we love vintage buttons and when we see some they become irresistable - can anyone resist? I bought these ones last Friday and, believe, me it was very difficult to choose them as they were all so pretty...and you cannot imagine the amount of beautiful buttons available. I wanted to buy all the buttons in the shop, but the owner wouldn't let me (truth!)

Pequenas grandes mudanças * Small scale. Big changes

As tão anunciadas, por mim, mudanças estão em fase embrionária, mas para que surtam efeito é quase necessário começar do zero. É isso que a Vânia está a fazer: a preparar o logo para a nossa loja no Etsy, que por uns dias irá ficar encerrada - bem sei que as prateleiras têm estado vazias, mas a ideia é que surja renovada.

The unreveiled changes are about to happen, but to be noticeable we have to start from scratch. And Vânia has been working on the logo for our Etsy shop, which will be closed for a while - I know it's been looking pretty empty, but the ideia is to make it look brand new.

De volta * I'm back

As passadas semanas têm sido de ausência quase propositada, mas agora estou de volta e em breve terei algumas notícias para divulgar aqui. Quando digo em breve, terão de esperar até Setembro, aquele mês em que tudo começa!

Passei uns dias no "meio de nenhures" onde o encanto da vida do campo se mistura com o lado menos romântico da coisa: bichos!!!!! E não, não falo de gatinhos, nem coelhinhos que se passeiam livremente, mas de rãs que nos visitam nos sítios mais inesperados (no duche, por exemplo!!!), de vespas que não dão descanso ou de aranhas do tamanho de pratos de sobremesa (ok, eu sei que é exagero, mas elas são mesmo grandes!!!). Aproveitei para por as ideias em ordem, desenhar mentalmente alguns projectos e preparar-me para o que aí vem.

Não saiam dos vossos lugares, pois os posts regulares estão de volta.

I've been away from the blog for the past few weeks, but now I'm back and soon I'll have a few things to tell you around here. When I say "soon" I mean September - that month of the year when everything starts to move!

I spent a few days in the countryside, in the middle of nowhere where the charming life of a countrygirl meets the dark side of countryliving: animals!!! And no, I'm not talking about kittens or lovely rabbits that run freelly around the country, but frogs that appear in the most unexpected places (like the shower for example!!!), wasps that are always around or spiders the size of a saucer (ok, I'm over reacting, buth they were really big!!!). At least I had some rest, manage to mentally draw some projects and get ready for what's coming.

Don't leave your seats, beacuse we are back to regular posting.
