...para a inauguração da exposição "Urban Sketchers Portugal na Rua Augusta". A inauguração é já na quarta-feira, pelas 18horas na Faculdade de Belas Artes, em Lisboa.

No dia 9 de Outubro, sob a ameaça constante de chuva, a Rua Augusta, em Lisboa, foi palco de um encontro de sketchers com a participação record de cerca de 100 desenhadores e esta exposição é o resultado parcial desse mesmo encontro. Se não puderem ir à inauguração, poderão lá ir noutro dia, pois os cadernos vão estar em exposição até dia 18 de Fevereiro.

Por último, mas não menos importante, pelo menos para mim no papel de "mana mais velha", o caderno da Vânia também vai lá estar :-)))

...for the opening of this exhibition: "Urban Sketchers Portugal @ Rua Augusta, Lisbon" on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at F.B.A.L.

On the 9th of October, under the permanent threat of rain, a group of about 100 sketchers met in Rua Augusta do draw the facades of this beautiful street in Lisbon and this exhibition is the result of that wonderful afternoon. It can be visited until the 18th of February.

At last but not the least, if you visit the exhibition look for Vânia's sketchbook which will also be there :-) I'm a proud sister :-)))

A quilt to be

Quando vi estes tecidos, imediatamente pensei que seriam perfeitos para fazer um quilt para mim. Primeiro encomendei um conjunto e depois outro, pois cedo me apercebi que não iria longe com apenas seis retalhos... (que ideia a minha!) Entretanto já lhes adicionei uns básicos e hoje vi outro tecido que me parece ficar lá muito bem.

Tecidos escolhidos, só falta escolher o desenho - eu sei, eu sei, devia ser ao contrário, mas eu não consigo planear pelo direito eheheh . Estou indecisa entre estes dois, e conto com a vossa opinião para me ajudar a decidir.

When I saw these fabrics, my first thought was that they would give a perfect quilt for me. First I ordered a bundle and then another one, as soon I realised that one only bundle of six fatquarters wouldn't take me anywhere... (what an idea!). Meanhile I bought some matching basics antoday I spotted this one which seems to fit perfect among them.

Once the fabrics have been chosen, it's time to choose the pattern - I know, Iknow, it should be the other way around, but I can never make the plans from  the right side eheheh. I cannot make up my mind between these two patterns, so I'm counting on your help to take a decision.

Preparada para uma longa viagem... * Ready for a long journey...

Os últimos dias não têm sido fáceis, além de longos o trabalho no escritório não me tem dado tréguas, o que faz com que a energia para fazer o que quer que seja quando chego a casa não seja nenhuma. Hoje, finalmente, consegui chegar ligeiramente mais cedo e tenho estado a terminar as clutches da Steph. Quatro no total: uma para a noiva (a Steph) e três para as damas de honor :-) Amanhã seguem viagem até ao Porto, pois irão na bagagem da "dupla maravilha" até à Nova Zelândia.

The last few days haven't been particulary easy, not only they've been "endless" but at work life has been also difficult, which brings all my energy down and when I get home I only want to rest... Finally today I managed to get a bit earlier and for the last four hours I've been finishing the four clutches Steph ordered from us: four in total - one for the bride (Steph) and three for the bridesmaids :-) Tomorrow they'll be sent to o'Porto as they will be taken by the "wonder team" up to New Zealand.

Capa para iPad * iPad cover

 

Quando procurei no Etsy por capas de para o iPad foram várias os modelos que apareceram, mas acabei por optar por este, pois foi o que me pareceu mais prático. Não o segui na totalidade, uma vez os moldes me pareceram confusos e discrepantes das instruções - não estou a dizer que o problema esteja neles, pois é bem certo que a confusão seja minha. Assim, procurei as medidas do iPad e fui fazendo a capa seguindo apenas as imagens que aparecem no tutorial.

When I looked on Etsy for iPad cases I found several tutorials, but this was the one that I chose for being more simple to use. I couldn't follow the instructions as they are because the patterns seemed confused - my problem, believe me! Therefore I looked for the iPad measures and followed only the pictures in the tutorial.

Finalmente consegui ter uma tarde em que consegui atingir todos os objectivos propostos:

1. Terminar uma encomenda

2. Fazer uma capa para um iPad

3. Fazer uma cobertura para a alça da máquina fotográfica

e ainda, costurar uma bonequinha para me fazer companhia no atelier. Vou-lhe chamar Cerejinha :-)))

Finally I manage to have an afternoon when I could accomplish all my goals:

1. To finish an order

2. To sew an iPad case

3. To make a camera strap cover

and, I still had time to sew this little doll to be my company in the study. I'll call her "Baby Cherry"

amendoeiras em flor * almond blossom

Já não são tantas como antigamente, mas nesta altura do ano não é raro ver pequenas manchas brancas a salpicar os terrenos. As amendoeiras estão em flor e não é por muito tempo... E eu tenho a sorte de as ver ao longo do percurso que faço todos os dias de manhã para o trabalho :-)))

There aren't as many ans before, but at this time of the year it's common to spot small white patches lost in the fields. The almond trees are blooming beautifully and they won't stay like this for a long time... And I'm lucky enough to enjoy them every morning on my way to work :-)))

pequenos detalhes * tiny details

Às vezes procuro respostas num café. E elas aparecem! Decido ir tomar um café enquanto estou a pensar nalguma ideia, ou tenho que decidir alguma coisa, e de repente "faz-se luz" e as respostas aparecem mesmo à frente dos meus olhos.

Desta vez fui ao meu café preferido, onde pensam em tudo e não faltam os detalhes, e junto da chávena vinha uma pista importante :-) Nem de propósito!

Apesar das adversidades há coisas que nascem e se criam nos lugares mais inóspitos - tal como o transformar o hobbie num negócio, ou uma verde planta num bloco de pedra: é muito difícil, mas não é impossível. Hoje vou dormir sobre o assunto e quem sabe um dia destes o levo mesmo para a frente :-)

Sometimes the answers to my questions come with a coffee cup. It's while I have it hot that I think about any idea that I had or I take some important decision about anything, and sometimes the answer is right there - not in the coffee, but next to it :-)

Today I went to one of my favourite spots in Lisbon and when the coffee arrived at the table there was one of these answers :-))) "one night I'll turn my hobbie into my business" . It couldn't have been more appropriate!

Despite all the difficulties, it cannot be impossible and one of these days it'ss be true, just like a beautiful plant out of a stone wall.

mensagem de amor * love message

Todos os dias de manhã quando abro a janela digo "Bom dia, Lisboa!". É um privilégio viver nesta cidade tão generosa, que a cada instante nos surpreende e nos presenteia com pequenos mimos como este, que encontrei hoje à hora do almoço. Mesmo quem anda cabisbaixo não fica indiferente a esta mensagem no chão: o amor. Só para lembrar quão importante é o amor que podemos dar, aos que nos rodeiam, no trabalho que fazemos e nos hobbies que temos. :)

Every single morning  I open the window and I say "Good morning, Lisbon!".  It is a privilege to live in such a generous city as Lisbon, that at every moment surprises (and gives us) with little gifts like this one I found today. Even those who walk head down are not indifferent to this message on the floor: love. Just to remember how important is the love we can give to those around us, in the work we do and the hobbies we have. :)

*Encomendas* *Orders*

Esta é uma encomenda que vai para o outro lado do planeta. Já tem rota traçada e garanto-vos que vai ter de percorrer muiiitooooosss quilómetros. Está quase terminada, mas falta o quase: o trabalho e outras tarefas pós-laborais não me têm deixado muito tempo livre...

Hoje, aproveitei a hora do almoço e fui até à ria tirar umas fotografias :-)

This order will be soon traveling to the other side of the planet. It' route has been traced and I can guarantee you that will be a very long journey. It's almost done, but there's still a bit outstanding: office work and other post-work tasks have been consuming all my free time...

*Caracóis de canela* *Cinnamon rolls*

Ontem, depois de ter passado a tarde a costurar, deu-me um apetite de bolos de canela, daqueles de padaria, ou pelo menos das padarias cá de baixo, sabem como é? Mas encontrar bolos de canela frescos ao final do dia de um Sábado pareceu-me uma missão impossível, daí que tenha resolvido fazer alguns - infelizmente, já não foram a horas do lanche.

Yesterday, after having spent the afternoon sewing, I was craving for cinnamon rolls, like the ones you buy down here at any baker's. But finding fresh cinnamon rolls on a Saturday afternoon seemed impossible, so I decided to bake some - unfortunately they weren't ready for the afternoon tea.

You can not imagine the sweet smell that spread all over my house!

*Sweet pink quilt*

Quando fiz este quilt, tinha em mente oferecer a uma menina recém-nascida, no entanto houve uma mudança de planos e acabei por fazer algo "mais útil" :-S Depois de muito pensar - se havia de ficar com ele, ou não - decidi que o melhor a fazer seria vendê-lo, por isso em breve, estará disponível aqui ao lado. Se por acaso, quiserem informações sobre o mesmo, poderão enviar-me um um e-mail.

When I made this quilt, I thought of giving it to a newborn girl, in the meanwhile there was a change of plans and I ended up making something "more useful" :-S Now, after giving it a long thought, I decided to sell it, therefore soon it will be available at the shop. *Sneak Peak*

De todo o meu stock, estes foram os tecidos foram escolhidos. Os moldes cortados e parcialmente costurados. O trabalho está a progredir a bom ritmo e espero ter esta encomenda terminada durante o fim-de-semana, pois até chegar ao destinatário ainda tem muitos quilómetros a percorrer.

PS- Estou a adorar fazer isto :-)

From my stash these wer the chosen fabrics. The patterns have been cut and some of the parts have been sewn.The work is progressing at a good pace and I hope to have this order finished during the weekend as it's got many kilometres to travel before it arrives to its recipient.

PS- I'm enjoying a lot this work :-)

*Jardim Botânico ** Botanical Garden*

O Jardim Botânico de Lisboa é sempre um lugar para ir e regressar. Sempre. 

O Jardim Botânico da Universidade de Lisboa começou a ser plantado em 1873, uma iniciativa dos professores Conde de Ficalho e Andrade Corvo. Rico em espécies, é um jardim científico que conta ainda com um borboletário. Este vasto e surpreendente espaço junto ao Príncipe Real é, sem dúvida, inspirador em qualquer estação do ano! Recentemente classificado como monumento nacional este jardim precisa de mais atenção para que permaneça vivo, e para ajudar foi criada a Liga dos Amigos do Jardim Botânico. que promove eventos e acções em defesa do mesmo. Sabiam que podemos adoptar árvores?

The Botanical Garden of Lisbon is always a place to go and come back. Always.

The Botanical Garden of Lisbon University began to be planted in 1873, an initiative from two professors: Conde de Ficalho and Andrade Corvo. Rich in species, is a scientific garden that also has a butterfly greenhouse. This vast and amazing space is undoubtedly inspiring in any season! Recently classified as a national monument this garden needs more attention to be kept alive, and to help it it has been created  the League of Friends of Botanical Garden, which promotes events and actions in defense of the garden. Did you know that we can adopt a tree?

 We're sharing some pictures we took  in the most recent visit to the Garden early this year. :)

*#TWIPS Homespun Holiday Gift Exchange*

Além do Facebook, temos uma participação activa no Twitter, e é lá que temos travado conhecimentos com pessoas de uma outra área de negócios: casamentos!, muito graças à dupla maravilha Sofia e André da BrancoPrata :-) Entre "tweets" foi criado um grupo denominado TWIPS e antes do Natal, a Annie organizou  uma troca de presentes entre o grupo - de Portugal à Nova Zelândia ninguém ficou de fora :-)

O meu presente foi para a Califórnia directamente para a Naomi e recebi um da Jacin, vindo de São Francisco. Obrigada, Jacin!

Not only on Facebook, but also on Twitter we are very participative and it's been there that we've met people from another business area: wedding planning! much of it thanks to the Sofia and Andre, the wonder team of BrancoPrata :-) Among many tweets a group has been created named TWIPS and before Christmas, Annie put together a Christmas swap among all the members - from Portugal to New Zealand :-) My present was sent to California, directly to Naomi and I got mine from Jacin, in SanFrancisco. Thank you, Jacin!

Sunday Stash # twenty five

Os tecidos são mesmo um vício, e para começar o ano de 2011 nada como reunir o sotck mais recente  - uns comprados e outros oferecidos (obrigada, Lisa!).

Fabrics are really addictive, and to start 2011 nothing better than put together my new stash - some of them bought, other offered (thank you, Lisa!).

Não nos fartamos destes cupcakes, pois são realmente D-E-L-I-C-I-O-S-O-S!!! E são tão bonitos que é impensável não os fotografar antes de os saborear.

We can't get enough of these cupcakes, because they are really D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S!!!And they are so pretty that we always have to take pictures before we taste them.

*Heartmade Christmas Presents*

De todos os presentes que fiz este ano, além do quilt, estas fronhas foram as que me deram mais prazer fazer. Fi-las para a Vânia, pelo que ainda não as tinha podido mostrar aqui :-) e já estão, neste momento a decorar o sofá da sua casa Pin & Pon. Não é, mana?

From all the presents I made for Christmas, besides the quilt, I really enjoyed sewing these cushion covers. I made them for my sister and that's why I couldn't post them here before :-) Right now they are on the sofa in her Pin&Pon apartment. Right, sister?

*Caixa de sonhos* *Box of dreams*

Parte da magia de ser criança é poder viver num mundo de fantasia sem se ser julgado, e se os adultos puderem dar um empurrãozinho, então é perfeito! Uma das melhores recordações de infância que tenho é o telefonema diário que a minha mãe fazia do emprego e, mesmo longe, conseguia descrever exactamente o que eu tinha vestido. À minha pergunta repetida "Como é que sabes?", a resposta era sempre a mesma "O meu telefone tem uma televisão!" (agora isso até seria possível, mas estamos a falar de 1977...)

E é levada por estas brincadeiras, que sempre que posso também as repito :-)

Nos dias que antecederam o Natal, a "nossa" menina, viu debaixo da árvore um caixote enorme, e para evitar muitas perguntas, dissemos-lhe que aquele presente era meu. Na antevéspera, depois de mais um dia connosco, fui levá-la a casa  e consegui colocar no carro, sem que ela visse, todos os seus presentes, entre os quais o tal caixote. Quando lhos entreguei, não o reconheceu como sendo o mesmo, mas disse-me: "Olha, Margarida, um presente igual ao teu!". Sorri-lhe e só lhe respondi que sim, que era um caixote igual.

Depois do Natal ela voltou para a nossa casa e a primeira coisa que quis saber, foi o que continha o meu presente igual ao dela. Disse-lhe a primeira coisa que me veio à cabeça: " O meu caixote estava cheio de sonhos!" Não estranhou. O rosto ficou iluminado com um sorriso de felicidade porque o meu presente era, afinal, tão bom como o dela. :-)

The magic of being a child is that they can live in a fantasy world without being questioned or judged, and if there's an adult behing to help, than it becomes perfect! One of the sweetest memories from my childhood is the daily phonecaall my mother used to make from work and she would describe exactly what I was wearing. I was fascinated by it and I always asked her how did she know, to what she would always reply:"My phone has a television in it!"(This can easily happen today, but we are talking about 1977...)

And inspired by these I do the same whenever I can :-)

A few days before Christmas, "our" little girl saw a huge pack under the Christmas tree and to avoid further questions we told her that that present was for me. On Christmas eve, when I took her home I manage to put all her presents - among them there was "the box" - in my car without being seen. She was thrille and wasn't the least suspicious about it as she said: "Oh Margarida this box is just like yours!". I smilled and said yes to her.

After Christmas when she returned to us, the first thing she wanted to know was what was in my box. I told her the first thing that caame up to my mind: "My box was full of dreams!" She didn't find it awkward. Her face lighted up and she smiled at me happier than a little bird and found that my present was as good as hers :-)
