Chapéus: panamás * Hats: panama type

Ando há dias com vontade de fazer algo diferente, mas sem saber bem o quê - para variar..., mas ontem de dar uma arrumação ao atelier, resolvi passar os olhos pelos meus livros e não foi preciso procurar muito: "vou fazer um chapéu!". E fiz :-)

Escolhi os tecidos, cortei o molde e comeci de imediato a coser :-) Tive de desmanchar, claro (!!!), mas depois de refeito é caso para dizer: "Quero fazer mais!!!"

I've been thinking that I wanted to make something different, but didn't know exactly what, so yesterday after tyding up my sewing room I went through my books and it didn't take me long to take a decision: " i'm going to make a hat!". And I made it :-)

I chose the fabrics, cut the pattern and started sewing right away :-) I had to unsew it, of course (!!!), but now i want to make more.

Sunday Stash #twenty seven

Tons suaves e cores diferentes das (minhas) habituais caracterizam este tecido Liberty que vai ficar em stand by até eu decidir o que fazer com ele. Gosto tanto dele que me apetece tê-lo sempre à vista só para o poder admirar :-) e vai sem dúvida para a minha lista de preferências juntamente com este e com este.

Soft tones and different colours from the ones I use to buy are the main attraction of this Liberty fabric and just for that it will be put on hold until I decide what I want to make with it. I love it so much that I wanted to have it on display all the time just to look at it :-) and it goes straight to my Top 10 together with this one and this other one.

London (still..): Anthropologie

O nosso espírito mediamente consumista obrigou-nos a reservar uma tarde para andar de loja em loja, sobretudo, a ver o que normalmente só vimos através do monitor do computador, e para surpresa nossa em todos os sítios onde entrámos fomos autorizadas a tirar fotografias (tal e qual como acontece por cá...).

A Anthropologie, em Regent Street foi paragem obrigatória e se alguns preços são proibitivos, só pelo espaço vale a pena entrar sem medo :-)

While we were in London we booked one afternoon in our diaries to wander around the shops, mainly to see what we are used to see only through the computer screen, and for our surprise everywhere we went in we were allowed to take pictures (as it happens down here...cof! cof! cof!...)

Anthropologie in Regent Street is a "must stop" and if you close your eyes to some of the prices which are a bit harsh, it's worth going there just to look at this beautiful shop.

Bon Voyage, Annie

A Annie, do delicioso Marry You Me está de malas feitas para se mudar para terras de Sua Majestade por um período de tempo - será ela a organizadora do casamento real? :-) - , e a Jacin teve a brilhante ideia de lhe enviarmos um postal virtual a desejar uma Boa Viagem e Feliz Estadia.

Da nossa parte tenho a certeza que se irá sentir em casa, pois Londres tem esse "je ne sais quoi" que nos faz sentir bem.

Annie, the author of the delicious Marry you Me, has her suitcases packed to move for a preriod to Her Majesty's country - is it her who's organizing the Royal Wedding? :-) -and Jacin had this wonderful idea of putting together a postcard to wish her All the Best and Happy Journey.

Adoro papoilas!!! Há uns anos, em Elvas vi um campo enorme de papoilas que nunca me hei-de esquecer, e desde há dois anos que, nesta altura do ano, passo todos os dias por três papoilas rosa que eu adoro. Surpreendentemente este ano ainda não as tinha visto até Segunda-feira de manhã - devem ter surgido durante o fim-de-semana :-) e são mais que as três do costume. Ah, são tão lindas que apetece colhê-las para ter em casa, mas se as apanhasse deixariam de me alegrar as manhãs quando passo por elas.

I love poppies!!! A few years ago, in Elvas, I saw a field full of poppies which I'll never forget, and for the last two years, that at this time of the year I pass by three beautiful pink poppies that I adore.

Surprisingly this year I hadn't spotted them just until Monday morning - they must have bloomed during the weekend :-) and there are more than the usual three. Ahh, they are so beautiful that I feel like putting them in a jar, but if I took them they wouldn't be there to brighten my days.

Manta Portuguesa

Há tempos a Sofia e a Rosário propuseram-me participar num quilting bee exclusivamente português, e uma vez encerrado o grupo, já demos início ao processo. A Rosário, por ser a mais experiente tomou as rédeas e foi a primeira a enviar os tecidos para as restantes nove, os quais já me chegaram há duas semanas - nem de propósito o conjunto de cores é o meu preferido: rosa + verde! O tema é livre, e a única condição é o tamanho final,  e com o que recebi, fiz o meu melhor. O que vos parece?

Some time ago, Sofia and Rosário invited me to join a portuguese quilting bee, and once the group completed, we started it. Rosário was the first to sent the fabrics over to the rest of us and imagine how happy I was when I saw they were in my favourite colour combination: pink + green. The block pattern was free and the only condition was its the final size - here is mine, I did my best. What do you think of it?

A Primavera está aí * Spring has sprung

No primeiro dia da Primavera fui ver o por-do-sol à praia. Valeu a pena! Seguiu-se depois um passeio em boa companhia, que tenho de repetir durante o dia, pois há autênticas "pérolas" para serem fotografadas :-P

First day of Sring ended watching the sunset at the beach. It was worth the journey! After that I went for a walk in good company, which I have to repeat during the day because I found "very interesting" images to capture with my camera :-P

Knitting weekend

Não sou uma grande tricotadeira, mas de vez em quando gosto de pegar nas agulhas e fazer qualquer coisa ou para mim ou para quem está próximo. Normalmente projectos simples e que não levem muito tempo a fazer, e para isso sempre que vejo uma lã que me agrade, compro-a. Estas foram adquiridas na Retrosaria e na Loop e são tão bonitas assim que até tenho pena de fazer estas meadas em novelo.

Na semana passada a mãe encontrou no youtube a técnica do crochet peruano, que é uma mistura de tricot e crochet, e fez esta amostra com um pouco de lã que tinha à mão. Eu, gostei tanto do ponto que decidi fazer uma echarpe usando-o, mas primeiro tenho de praticar para não desperdiçar nem um centímetro de fio :-)

I'm not a big knitter, but once in a while I like to get the needdles and knit something either for me or for someone close to me. Usually I make small and simple projects that don't take long to finish, so whenever I see a yarn that I like I buy it to have it in stock. These two wer bought at Retrosaria and Loop and I like them so much this way that I'm postponing using them and making them into balls.

Last week my mother found on youtube a technique that is a sort of mix between crochet and knitting and now I'm practising it before I start knitting myself a scarf.

London: trees

Uma grande parte das árvores ainda está despida, se bem que já cheira a Primavera em alguns cantos e a Vânia não conseguiu deixar de as fotografar. Acho que a ideia é pintá-las quando tiver algumas horas disponíveis, certo mana?

A great number of trees is still naked, but in some places you can see the Spring coming out and taken by this natural beauty, Vânia couldn't stop taking pictures. I think the idea is to paint them when she's got some spare hours, right sister?

London: food...I mean, cakes!

Ao descarregar as fotos para o computador reparámos que temos imensas subordinadas ao mesmo tema: bolos!!! Não é que os tenhamos sequer provado, mas eram bonitos de se ver e irresistíveis de se fotografar. Querem ficar com água na boca? Aqui fica uma pequena amostra :-))) E não vamos ficar por aqui, pois ainda vos queremos mostrar dois sitios literalmente deliciosos!

When we downloaded the photos to our laptop we noticed that we have loads of pictures on the same subject: cakes!!! Not that we have tried them, but they were so pretty we couldn't avoid taking pictures.

London favourite shops: Loop

Uma das lojas que nos foi recomendada com um "NÃO PODEM DEIXAR DE IR" foi a Loop. Depois de uma passagem, também obrigatória, por Camdem, o metro levou-nos sem erro ao destino. E sim, valeu mesmo a pena lá ir. A loja é, simplesmente, adorável, e apetece ficar e ver e mexer e ver e comprar e ver e não ir embora - transmite aquele sentimento de "está-se muito bem aqui". Tivemos, ainda o privilégio de passar os olhos pelo último número da Selvedge, que chegou no momento em que lá estávamos.

A Vânia aproveitou para desenhar, enquanto eu tirei umas fotografias para vos mostrar.

One of the shops we were recommended to go with a "YOU CAN NOT MISS IT" was Loop. After a quick look around Camdem, the subway took us directly to our destination. And yes, it was worth going there. The shop is simply adorable, and it feels like staying and looking, and fiddling around and looking, and buying and not leaving - it's got that feeling "it's nice to be here". While we were there we had the previledge to look at the most recent issue of Selvedge Magazine, which was delivered while we were there.

London: what a lovely afternoon!

Estivemos uns dias em Londres e aproveitámos, não só para passear, mas também para conhecer alguém que só conhecíamos só da Internet: a Lizzet, o rosto atrás do The Fabric Loft  a quem comprámos uns tecidos há tempos :-) Foi uma tarde muito bem passada e na melhor companhia. Obrigada, Lizzet por teres ido ao nosso encontro! Andámos a passear por Covent Garden e mais tarde rumámos ao Soho para espreitar lojas de tecidos, materiais de arte e tomar um delicioso chá.

This week we spent a few days in London and we took the opportunity not only to wander around the city but also to meet someone we only knew from the web: Lizzet, the person behind The Fabric Loft, to whom we bought some fabrics a while ago. Thank you, Lizzet for taking your time to meet us :-) We wandered around Covent Garden and later we went to Soho for some fabric and art shops and for a delicious cup of tea.

Bolo de maçã * Apple cake

No Sábado já tinha tudo preparado para fazer um bolo de maçã quando me apercebi que a batedeira estava avariada e a Bimby não estava em casa... E agora? Fi-lo à moda antiga: tigela e vara de arames :-) E só vos digo que ficou delicioso!

Last Saturday I had everything prepared to bake a cake when I noticed that my mixer wasn't working and my Thermomix had been taken from home... What to do? I baked it anyway at the old fahioned way: a bowl and a whisker :-) And I can tell you that it was delicious!

Todos os aniversários devem ser comemorados, mas este é especial e só por isso estamos a festejá-lo em "grande estilo" :-)))

Há pelo menos dois anos que passo todos os dias à beira deste caminho e, por incrível que pareça, só há dias reparei na sua existência. Acreditem que a foto não faz jus à sua beleza :-)

Desde que o "descobri", tento sempre ver algo de novo e levada pelos pensamentos regresso sempre à infância e aos contos de fadas. Digam-me lá se não conseguem ver o Capuchinho Vermelho a caminhar para casa da avó? Ou os sete anões da Branca de Neve de regresso do trabalho e a cantarolar? 

It's been at least two years that I pass by this track but only a few days ago I noticed it and how beautiful it is. Believe me that the picture is not a spot on its natural beauty :-)

Since I discovered it I always try to look into it and find new things, and you know what? It drives my thoughts to when I was a child and reminds me of some fairy tales. Now, tell me, can't you see here Red Riding Hood on her way to grandma's? Or the seven dwarfs from Snow White singing and coming home from work?

Desenhos * Drawings

Sempre que posso e tenho disponibilidade inscrevo-me nos cursos livres da Faculdade de Belas Artes em Lisboa - além de ser num local  muito aprazível, consigo aprender um pouco mais sobre desenho - e do último que frequentei foi organizada uma exposição com os trabalhos dos alunos. Este foi um dos meus desenhos. Usei grafite para desenhar e no final uma aguada de tinta da china.

As and when I attend some art courses at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon - not only it is a beautiful place, but I also manage to improve my skills in drawing techniques. From the last one I was in, we organised an exhibition and this was one of my works there. I used a graphite bar and on it a wash of china's ink.

Urban Sketchers Portugal: XI Encontro

Na semana passada foi assim: o dia esteve bom e à porta do Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga, em Lisboa, mais de 100 sketchers marcaram presença para mais um encontro de desenhos :-) Eu também estive lá a desenhar e a conversar - bem como eu gosto eheheh

No saco levei o meu Moleskine, aguarelas, canetas e pincéis de campo. O resultado ainda não foi fotografado, mas em breve mostro-vos o que fiz.

From last week: the weather was fine and at the door of the Ancient Art Museum, in Lisbon, there were about 100 sketchers ready to spend another pleasant afternoon :-) I was there, as usual, not only to draw but to chat - and I well like it eheheh

In my bag I had my Moleskine, my watercolours, pens and pencils. I haven't had the chance to take any pictures, yet, but soon I'll show you what I've drawn.

Playing with colour

Há pouco olhei para a profusão de cores na caixa de linhas da mãe e apeteceu-me brincar com elas :-)    

Os corações de cartolina também lá estavam ao lado, e pendurados num cordel encontrei os rolos de fita cola :-)

Earlier this afternoon I noticed the amount of colours in my mother's box of thread and I felt like doing something with them :-) The paper hearts were right next to it and hanging from a piece of twine I spotted the coloured tape rolls :-)

There are so many pretty things out there that it is almosr impossible to choose what we really like or what inspires us. Para onde vou a máquina fotográfica vai comigo :-) Às vezes pesa, é verdade, mas não posso pensar que deixo alguma coisa que me chama a atenção por registar. Ganhei este hábito desde que, há uns anos, passava todos os dias por três papoilas arroxeadas, e todos os dias repetia: "amanhã trago a camera". As papoilas desapareceram e eu nunca as fotografei, ficando apenas com esta imagem na minha memória.

No Sábado reparei neste remate junto a um portão de ferro. São populares aqui por baixo e eu gosto deles. Também gosto de paredes caiadas de branco mas essas são cada vez mais raras...

Everywhere I go, my camera goes with me :-) Sometimes it weights in my bag, it's true, but I can't think that I leave something behing which is not captured by the lenses. I got used to this since, a few years ago I missed some purple poppies which I used to see everyday on my way to work. I used to say: "tomorrow I'll bring my camera", but the poppies disappeared and the only picture I have is in my memory.

Last Saturday I noticed this wall line next to a small iron gate. They are very popular down here and I like them. I also like white washed walls, but those are becoming very rare...

A quilt to be: Oliver + S fabrics

Os primeiros tecidos já os comprei há meses, os restantes há apenas algumas semanas, no entanto só no fim de semana tive a oportunidade de os começar a cortar - isto depois de me ter decidido pelo padrão a seguir. Nem sei quantos quadrados já tenho, mas antes de cortar mais vou começar a dispô-los e a cosê-los de forma a minimizar o desperdício de tecido.

Com o correr do dia-a-dia, parece-me que irei levar meses até que o meu quilt esteja pronto, mas como este é para mim, tenho todo o tempo do mundo :-) Há que gerir prioridades e, neste momento, tenho outras coisas que terão de ser feitas em primeiro lugar.

O mais difícil neste processo é conseguir encontrar tecidos básicos que sejam 100% algodão, como o laranja e o de "xadrez-de-bibe-de-escola", e cujas cores estejam de acordo com os restantes. Acho que consegui um conjunto harmonioso, pouco "ruidoso" e cujos padrões não se aniquilam mas sim, completam-se. É óbvio que tive a tarefa facilitada pelo facto de cinco deles pertenceram à mesma linha ...

I bought the first fabrics months ago, and the remaining ones only a few weeks ago, but only last weekend I managed to start cutting them - not before deciding which pattern to use :-) I don't know how many squares I already have, but the next step is to lay them down on the floor and start sewing rows.

As I'm always in a rush, I think it will take me months to complete this quilt but as it is for me, time is not a problem :-) There are other priorities in my life at this stage and those have to come first.

The most difficult thing about fabrics is to find some that are 100% cotton, as the orange one or the yellow gingham, and that match the remaining ones. I think I achieved my goal with these set of fabrics: the prints aren't too busy and they don't kill eachother. If you ask, it's obvious that here everything was easier as I five of these fabrics belong to the same range...
