Mix & Match

Não me vou queixar novamente do frio, pois isso é um dado adquirido que tento combater todos os dias :-) e como prova disso é o facto de hoje ter ganho coragem para ir para o atelier. Não estive tanto tempo como desejava, mas consegui completar esta clutch onde usei um pouco de alguns dos tweeds que tenho - apesar de não ter sido esse o caso, acho que esta é uma óptima solução para aproveitar "aqueles bocadinhos que já não chegam para nada". Gostaram? Está disponível aqui al lado.
E agora, que está a ficar escuro, vou ligar o botão do tricot :-)))

I'm not going to complain about the cold, as that is something that has no discussion :-)) To proof that I fight it, today I decided to sew something in my freezing sewing room. I wasn't there as much as I wished, nevertheless I managed to make this clutch. I used a mix of some of the tweeds in my stash - although it wasn't the case, I think this is a good solution to make usable all those little scraps and swatches which are not enough for anything. Did you like it? It's avilable next door.
And now, that is getting dark, I'll switch on the knitting mode :-)))

Irrequieta # Restless

Uma mente irrequieta num corpo preguiçoso é uma combinação, em simultâneo bombástica e frustrante. Asseguro-vos, pois hoje é um desses dias! Não acreditam?

1. A meia que estava mais de meia feita já a desmanchei. Estava desproporcional. Parecia uma aberração. Logo à noite começao outra :-S

2. Por momentos, apeteceu-me fazer umas flores. Desisti!

3. Depois achei que seria boa ideia pegar nuns tecidos que comprei antes do Natal com a intenção de fazer um pequeno quilt para mim. Ainda o comecei, mas o frio atacou-me as mãos e pus de lado.

Detesto quando isto me acontece, mas por vezes não há como fugir!

Do fim-de-semana salva-se a pequena colcha que completei para o F. - a avó materna fez a parte de crochet e ontem fiz o quilt. É tão pequenina que parece para uma cama de bonecos :-)))

A restless mind in a lazy body is far from being a peaceful combination. It's very frustrating and today I'm on that strange mood. Don't you believe me?

1. The sock which was more than half knitted has been unravelled. It was weird. The proportions weren't correct. Later this evening I'll start another one :-S

2. For a few moments I felt like I wanted to make some flowers. I've given up also!

3. Then, I thought it would be a good idea to start a new quilt for me with some fabrics I bought before Christmas. Wrong! My hands got cold and I didn't do much of it...

I hate when this happens but there's no escape from it!

From the weekend, the only thing I manage to make was for F.- his grandmother crocheted a small afghan and I completed it with a quilt. It's so small that it looks for a doll's bed :-)))

Quase lá... Almost there...

"Uma meia meia feita, outra meia por fazer. Diga lá minha menina quantas meias vêm a ser?"

O calcanhar já está! Segui as instruções do livro e dei uma vista de olhos nas da Zélia e acho que consegui atingir com algum  (60%) sucesso o objectivo! O facto de ter feito as botinhas de lã também ajudou, pois nunca tinha experimentado aumentos e diminuições. O resultado final vai ser estranho, pois a largura do pé é bem maior que a do cano - tennho de ajustar contas com o número de malhas!!!!

I'm half way through my first knitted sock. With the help of the book and Zélia's instructions the heel is done. I think I was about 60% successful in achieving my goal! The fact that I knitted the baby bootees in first place was a great help beacause I had never don incresas and decreases. The final result will be weird, for sure, because the cuff is much narrower than the gusset - I must readjust the number of stitches!!!

WIP

Tenho saudades da máquina de costura, mas por enquanto vou-me dedicando ao tricot, e acreditem que me tenho estado a divertir. O faz-desmancha é uma constante quando me apetece experimentar uns pontos, que eu até acho que podem ser simples... (mas sou só a sonhar, não se deixem enganar eheheh).

Ontem, como previsto, dediquei o serão a manusear as cinco agulhas de fazer meias (ou "palitos de espetadas" como já lhes chamaram!). Tirando o facto de, sem querer, ter puxado várias vezes pela agulha errada a aventura até não correu mal. Hoje quero ver se chego ao calcanhar :-)))

I miss my sewing machine, but for now I'll keep knitting and belive me, it has been great fun! I'm constantly unravelling what I've just knitted, especially when I go for something that I think that can be simple... (I'm a dreamer, so don't believe my words :-))).

Yesterday, as foreseen, I spent the evening messing up with the five needles (or "barbecue sticks" as someone named them!). Despite the fact that I pulled the wrong needle more than once, this wasn't a nice experience. Today I want to knitt the heel :-)))

This morning, before I went to work I stopped at the news agent and I found this knitting magazine. Another one...

Mais do mesmo... # The same, again...

Há uns dias que estas agulhas esperam que lhes dê uso a sério. Já as experimentei no fim-de-semana para ver se as conseguia manejar. Não é fácil, mas para uma primeira vez até não me atrapalhei muito. Hoje vou voltar a tentar, mas agora tendo em mente fazer, pelo menos, uma meia. Irei mostrando o progresso dos trabalhos...

It's been a few days that these needles have been waiting for me. I've tried them over the weekend just to check if I could manage them. It's not easy but for a first time it wasn't that bad. Today I'm going to give it another try, but with something in mind: I'm going to knitt at least a sock. I'll show you how it goes...

Kitchen Lab

Não é de hoje. A cozinha sempre foi - desde o tempo dos meus avós paternos - o coração desta casa e, actualmente, ainda é onde passamos grande parte do tempo: é espaçosa, tem uma mesa grande e cadeiras confortáveis. Muitas das experiências que fazemos têm este compartimento como cenário, especialmente durante o Inverno, pois o frio não permite que estejamos no atelier...

 Depois de terminado o gorro passa-montanhas, um número razoável de lãs e sem nenhum objectivo concreto dediquei-me a "perder tempo". Como nunca tinha trabalhado com aumentos e reduções no tricot, pareceu-me uma boa ideia tentar, e para tal segui o tutorial que a Rosário tem no blog para fazer umas botinhas de bebé. Comecei tarde, terminei ainda mais tarde, daí só ter feito uma :-))) Ficou gira! Agora vou completar o par...

The kitchen has always been the heart of this house - this comes from my grandparents time - as it is big, it has got a big table and comfortable chairs. Many experiences take place here, especailly during the winter because our crafting room is very cold.

The balaclava is finished so I decided to have a go on my yarn stash and try something new: knitting increases and decreases! For that I followed Rosario's tutorial to knitt a pair of baby bootees. It was late when I started, so I'm half way through :-))) Now, I'm about to knitt the second bootee...

Estas experiências nunca são solitárias, pelo que, na ausência da mana, conto com a mãe para ouvir os meus lamentos: "Ai que não estou a perceber nada disto!", "Não está a dar certo, vou desmanchar outra vez...", "Estou quase a desistir, mas...não!". Ela ri-se, incentiva-me e continua com os seus afazeres: uma (LINDAAAA!!!!) gola de crochet para a mana.

These are never lonely experiences, so when my sister is not around, my mother plays an important role as she is the one who listens to me: " I don't understand what I have to do!", "This is not right, I have to do it again...", "I'm about to give up, but...no!". She laughs at me, encourages me and keeps with her work: a (GORGEOUS!!!!) crochet cowl for my sister.

A propósito do post abaixo, envolvi-me numa pequena polémica com uma autora de um outro blog num continente bem distante. Em boa fé usei uma foto desse mesmo blog (entretanto retirada daqui), coloquei o respectivo link e, posteriormente, enviei-lhe um e-mail a comunicar-lhe o facto. Grande erro! Ela não gostou e pediu-me que retirasse a foto, pois estava a violar os direitos de autor com os quais protege todos os seus trabalhos. E-mail para cá, e-mail para lá e as justificações dadas prendem-se com o facto de eu não ter pedido autorização prévia e com a dita violação. Gentilmente enviou-me um link onde é possível ver que eu cometi um crime.

Agora questiono-me: não é a blogosfera feita destes links? Não é a blogosfera um meio "menos formal" de mostrar ao mundo aquilo vemos e de que gostamos?

O Pano p'ra Mangas não é um blog famoso, mas se a referência tivesse aparecido num outro qualquer com uma audiência e uma projeccção maiores a história já era outra... mas isso sou eu a pensar com os meus botões!

Na próxima vez que referenciarem alguém nos vossos blogues, pensem bem duas vezes antes de agir...

Because of the post below, I got myself in (kind of) trouble with the author of another blog, far away from here in a very distant place. In good faith I used a picture of one of her works(which I immediately removed) and linked back to her. After that I send her an e-mail telling her that I had featured her in here. Big mistake! She replied, asking me to remove the picture because I was using it without her permission, therefore violating her copyright. We exchanged some e-mails and she, gently, sent me a link to proof her point of view, that I had commited a crime.

Now, my questions are: Isn't the world of blogs made of links? Isn't this a "less formal" way of showing things that we like?

Pano p'ra Mangas is not a famous blog, but if the audience here was bigger and this was a well known blog the end of this story would have been different...but this is just me thinking to myself!

Next time you think about featuring someone in your blogs, think twice before you do it...

Tricot # Knitting

O frio e a chuva têm-me mantido afastada da máquina de costura e em busca de algum conforto, o tricot tem sido companheiro das horas após o jantar. A motivação acho que a fui buscar aos trabalhos de uma amiga, à abertura física da Retrosaria e ao livro que a minha irmã me ofereceu no Natal. Daí, a percorrer sites que explicam, que ensinam e que mostram peças lindíssimas foi um saltinho. Felizmente, tenho a "mestra" em casa e se tiver alguma dúvida é só perguntar à mãe.

The cold and the rain have been keeping me away from the sewing machine and looking for something more comfortable, I've been knitting everyday after dinner. The motivation came from a friend who makes very nice things, the opening of Rosa Pomar's shop, in Lisbon, and from the book I got from my sister for Christmas. Since then, I've been looking on the internet for website which explain, teach and feature beautiful knitted things. Fortunately I have a teacher at home and everytime I miss something I just need to ask my mother.

Lãs # Yarn

Fiquei fã. Sempre que puder vou lá voltar. E um dia que vá ao Porto tenho de, obrigatoriaamente, ir retribuir os sorrisos que quase consigo ver pelo telefone. A encomenda chegou, e com ela todo o cuidado de outros tempos: as lãs dentro de uma antiga caixa de linhas Âncora, o papel craft a envolver, e os toques finais: a etiqueta (reparem no meu nome escrito à máquina...) e o cordel a assegurar que o embrulho não se desfazia.

Entretanto, o cachecol que estou a fazer para a minha irmã já está quase pronto e o projecto que se segue é um gorro passa-montanhas para a filha de uma amiga - espero que corra bem!

I'm a fan. Every opportunity I have, I'll come back and when I go to O'Porto I must go there personally to retribute the smile I can feel everytime I ring the shop. The order arrived surrounded by all the tender and care from old days: the yarn was accomodated in an old cardboard box, wrapped in paper which was held by a piece of string, making sure that everything would arrive in order.Pay attention at the label: my name was typed on a typewriter...

Meanwhile, the scarflette I'm knitting for my sister is almost finished and the next project is a balaclava for a little girl - I hope this goes well!!!

Shop update

Apesar do frio e de alguma falta de tempo, tenho conseguido fazer alguma coisa e o resultado está à vista: três clutches em tweed que ficarão dsponíveis hoje na loja. Espreitem que vão gostar.

Despite the cold and the lack of time, I've been able to finish a few things and this isthe result: three tweed clutches available at the shop. Take a look. I'm sure you are going to like them.

Quentes e confortáveis # Warm and comfortable

Com o frio que está, não há acessório quente que possa falhar e estas golas feitas pela mana são do melhor que há. Acreditem :-))) Ainda não tinha tirado fotos, mas como a Rosa  a fotografou numa das suas idas à Retrosaria, hoje resolvi tirar uma à minha (auto-retratos não são de todo comigo!!!) para vos mostrar.

Em breve estarão algumas disponíveis ali ao lado.

With this cold any extra thing to keep us warm is very welcome and this cowls sewn by my sister are just perfect. Believe me!!! Yesterday she went to Retrosaria and Rosa took a picture of hers and today I took a picture of mine (self-portraits are not my especiality!!!). Here they are, just for you!

Lopo Xavier & Cª. Ldª

Não conhecia esta casa até a mana trazer para casa umas lãs que a Rosário lhe ofereceu, e assim que comecei a trabalhar com elas fiquei rendida à sua qualidade. Apesar de ter havido leitoras que se ofereceram para me comprar mais lãs, resolvi arriscar e telefonei para lá a pedir que me enviassem amostras. Isto aconteceu na Segunda-feira e hoje de manhã já tinha um envelope cheio de amostras à minha espera. Agora é só escolher e encomendar para começar um novo trabalho, já que o primeiro já está terminado.

I had never heard abouth this yarn supplier until my sister brought home two skeins of pure wool offered by Rosário. As soon as I started knitting them I fell in love with this material. Although some readers of this blog offered to buy me some more yarn, I took a chance and phoned the shop in order to get some samples. This happened on Monday and this morning I had a brown envelope waiting for me at the post office :-))) Very efficient!!! Now, I only have to choose the yarns and order them so I can start a new project, as the first one is already finished.

 Nota Muito Importante: Afinal, as lãs foram presente da Fernanda, que as ofereceu a quem esteve em casa da Rosário numa tarde, pelo que sei, bem divertida :-) Certo?

Very Important Note: After all, the yarn was a present from Fernanda to all the girls who were at Rosario's for, as far as I'm concerned, a very nice afternoon :-) Right?

Verdadeiras relíquias # True treasures

Às vezes parece-me que vivo na caverna de Ali Babá. Não é que haja por aqui 40 Ladrões, mas a verdade é que aqui se escondem verdadeiras relíquias. De vez em quando surge uma, como que por magia :-)

Esta revista é quase da minha idade e, exceptuando o facto de ter fotografias a preto e branco, é tão actual como qualquer livro que compremos hoje ou amanhã.

Sometimes it seems like I'm living in the Ali Baba cave. Not that there are the Forty Thieves, but the truth is that there are true treasures hidden around here. Once in a while they appear as per magic :-)

This magazine is nearly my age and despite the black and white pictures it is so up to date as any recently published book.

Resolução de Ano Novo # New Year's resolution

Este blog tem de ser submetido, urgentemente, a uma remodelação completa, só ainda não sei:

- o que é que lhe hei-de fazer...

- nem quando terei tempo para levar a cabo esta tarefa,

por isso, vai ficar com este visual por mais algum tempo!

This blog needs, as a matter of urgency, an extreme makeover, but I don't know:
-neither where to start...
- nor when that's going to happen,

therefore, for the time being it will remain as it is!

Da passagem de ano /From New Year's Eve

Não é das noites que mais nos entusiasme, em casa ou com amigos é apenas mais um serão que gostamos de passar onde nos sintamos bem. Desde há alguns anos que vamos sempre para o mesmo lugar e a meia-noite é, normalmente passada na praia à beira de uma gigante fogueira. Apesar disto, é com entusiasmo que entramos em cada novo ano e neste não foi excepção.

Para 2010 projectos não faltam. Apenas desejamos tempo para os concretizar!

This is just another evening that we like to spend at home or with friends, and for the last few years we spend it with the same old friends and midnight is spent at the beach by a big bonfire. Despite this, we are enthusiastic about every new year and this one was not different.

For 2010 we have lots of projects. We only wish time to make them real!

To all of you, our best wishes for 2010!!!
