Longe do bulício de Londres vagueio pela calmaria que são a Baixa e o Chiado em Lisboa. É triste ver algumas lojas fechadas, mas é com alegria que descubro novos espaços e ainda por cima cheios de estilo. Foi o caso da Arte Assinada - Concept Store não muito longe do  Teatro da Trindade.

Para os mais velhos este espaço deve ser um choque, pois não tem paredes brancas, nem chão brilhante - é antes um espaço "em bruto" onde se vê vigas de cimento, tijolos e até onde passa a canalização, mas tudo isso é perfeito e está em harmonia com o conteúdo - peças de design português e estrangeiro que vão desde os acessórios de moda a mobiliário.

Far from the busy and noisy London I wander around the centre of Lisbon known as Baixa and Chiado. On one hand it's sad to see some shops closing down but on the other one there are gorgeous and stylish shops opening up. Yesterday I found Arte Assinada - Concept Store not far from Teatro da Trindade.

For the eldery people this shop must be something out of this world because its walls are not white and the floor is not shinning - somehow it reminds a construction site where bricks, concrete and unfinished pavements are the scenery for the rest. Although, as a whole, the space is just perfect! - and here you can find various things from design jewellery to furniture.

Há anos que alimento este blog com fotografias - as melhores que consigo tirar! -  e com textos que me saem da alma - sem rodeios, nem palavras "difíceis", pois acho que toda a gente o deve conseguir ler sem a obrigação de ter um dicionário ao lado do computador, mas começo a sentir falta de algo mais. 

Sinto falta de conseguir fazer quadros de inspiração bonitos com recurso não só a fotos, mas também a fundos, fontes e outros itens digitais com os quais se consegue obter efeitos engraçados ou simplesmente acrescentar algo às fotografias que as tornem mais personalizadas. Não, não quero cair em excessos, pois a simplicidade é a mãe de toda a beleza...

Com tudo isto ando a ver se me entendo com o Photoshop ou com o Illustrator - mas não está fácil e as minhas ferramentas preferidas continuam a ser a caixa de aguarelas, os pinceis, as canetas e a tesoura; vou experimentando até onde o Picmonkey me consegue levar, mas também este é limitado.

O que fazer? Aceito sugestões! Será que tenho alguém desse lado me sabe dar algumas dicas? Acho que da partilha todos podemos aprender.

It's been years that I post here the best photos - at least the best I can shoot! - and my texts come straight from my heart - focused and without "tricky" words as I think everybody should be able to read it without having to have a dictionary by the computer, but I start to think that something is missing.

I miss being able to make pretty inspiration boards using not only photos but also fonts and other digital items with which you can achieve nice effects, or simply adding text or something else to customise the photos. Sometimes a little twist is enough to improve their look.

So, I've been trying to learn how to work with Photoshop or Illustrator, but it's not easy and my favourite tools are still my brushes, watercolours and scissors; I've been using Picmonkey but it gets to a apoint when it's not enough...

What to do? All your suggestions are welcome! Can anyone give me some tips on how to achieve what I want? Sharing is caring and everybody can learn from it.

Flying home

Como já vem sendo hábito, nos dias em que regresso a casa o post é programado. 

A esta hora estou dentro do avião quase a aterrar em Lisboa. Os abraços e os mimos esses só chegarão mais tarde, lá para o final do dia - da mana - e no final da semana - dos meus pais.

Ahhh saudades!

As usual, whenever I fly back to Portugal, I schedule a post.

In this precise moment I'm inside an airplane and in an hour or so I'll be landing in Lisbon. Later in the day I'll be arms wide open for some hugs and kisses - from my sister - and later in the week I'll be with my parents.

Ohhhh I miss them!

Big Egg Hunt 2013

Vá-se lá saber porquê na véspera ou no dia em que viajo para Portugal vou sempre a Covent Garden - quando dou por mim estou lá... e hoje não foi excepção. Quando lá cheguei deparei-me com uma exposição de ovos de Páscoa gigantes, à semelhança do que aconteceu no ano passado - alguns bem giros, outros nem por isso. Podem ser adquiridos e os fundos revertem para um fim solidário. É óbvio que a máquina que ía dentro da mala, veio espreitar o frio (está um frio de rachar!!!!) e registar algumas destas obras de arte.

Go figure why but the day before or the same day I leave to Portugal I always end up going to Covent Garden - when I notice I'm there! ... and that's where I went today. As soon as I got there my attention was caught by the giant Easter eggs displayed in front of the market - just like it happened a year ago. If you wish you can bid them and the funds are to support Action for Children.  Despite the cold (it's feezing here!!!) I had to take my camera out of my bag to shoot some photos.

Selvedge Spring Fair

Em Novembro fiquei encantada com a Selvedge Winter Fair, onde estive como voluntária, por isso não podia perder a edição de Primavera que está a decorrer neste fim-de-semana. Hoje fui lá como visitante e como tal tive hipótese de ver com mais tempo e detalhe cada um dos expositores. Há trabalhos realmente maravilhosos desde os texteis à ilustração, passando pela cerâmica ... 

Falei com algumas das pessoas presentes e a paixão com que falam dos seus trabalhos transparece no produto final. Paixão e humildade - é delicioso ouvi-las.

Tirei algumas fotografias e vim de lá com vontade de regressar. Para já ficou a promessa de nova visita à Selvedge Winter fair, que decorrerá no mesmo local nos dias 29 e 30 de Novembro.

Last November I was amazed by the Selvedge Winter Fair, where I worked as a volunteer, therefore I couldn't miss the Spring edition that is happening this weekend. Today I went there as a visitor so I had the chance to look at all the stalls with no rushes and in detail. There were beautiful works there from textiles to illustration, ceramics ... and so on.

I spoke with some of the crafters there and it's lovely to hear them speaking about their art -  they speak about it so passionately that you can see it in their final products.

I took some photos and left the fair wanting to go back. So, here's the promise to come back next November for the Selvedge Winter fair which will take place in the same venue on the 29 and on the 30th.

Há dias fiz umas tostas crocantes - como aquelas que se vendem em pacotes - usando um pão de forma fatiado, com a diferença que retirei a côdea a todas as fatias. No final fiquei com uma tijela de tirinhas de côdea de pão que, se por um lado não me serviam de nada, por outro não me apetecia deitá-las fora. Assim, fui à procura de receitas para as aproveitar e encontrei esta que é realmente deliciosa e fácil de fazer.

Ingredientes:

- côdeas de um pão de forma

- 1/2 chávena de chá de manteiga derretida

- 3/4 de chávena de chá de açúcar

- 1 colher de sopa de canela

Como fazer:

Aquecer o forno a 160ºC.

Colocar as côdeas de pão numa tijela, deitar por cima a manteiga derretida e envolver com cuidado para não partir as tirinhas de pão. Por cima deitar o açúcar e a canela e voltar a envolver cuidadosamente. Espalhar tudo sobre um tabuleiro e levar ao forno por aproximadamente meia hora ou até o pão ficar dourado e crocante.

No fim, se sobrarem alguns destes "bread sticks" - que duvido - podem guardá-los numa lata.

 

A couple of days ago I made some toast - like the melba toast we buy in packs -using sliced loaf of bread with the difference that I removed all the crusts. In the end I had a bowl full of thin crusts and I didn't know what to make with them. So I looked on the internet for a solution and I found this recipe which is easy to make and delicious to eat.

Ingredients:

- crusts from a loaf of bread

-1/2 cup of melted butter

- 3/4 cups of sugar

-1 spoonfull of cinnamon.

How to make it:

Preheat the oven at 160ºC.

Place the crusts in a large bown and pour the melted butter over them. Toss them carefully not to break them. Pour on sugar and cinnamon and toss to coat again. Spread them in an oven tray and bake them for about 30 minutes or until they look golden brown.

In the end, if you have some left - which I doubt! - you can keep then in a tin.

A Claudia é daquelas pessoas que nos deixa com um sorriso na cara, quer pela sua simpatia, quer pelo seu talento - faz fotografias deliciosas! Cruzei-me com ela pela primeira vez numa feira na Lx Factory e ali ficámos à conversa como se nos conhecêssemos desde sempre. É engraçada a empatia que se cria com certas pessoas que nunca vimos na vida. Vamos conhecê-la hoje aqui no Meet the Blogger desta semana.

Porquê o nome do blog e como é que surgiu?

Olha na altura em que decidi ter um blog não foi fácil encontrar o nome certo. Não sabia sequer o que iria escrever, o que queria fazer dele. Nem conhecia assim muitos blogs para ter alguma inspiração. Por outro lado sentia o meu lado criativo a despertar cada vez mais e sentia-me perdida na vida profissional que tinha. Sair em Lisboa sozinha para passear com a minha máquina fotográfica era o que mais adorava fazer. Estava a descobrir a cidade de novo e com os olhos muito mais atentos! Foi quando decidi que ia criar um blog e depois de duas ou três tentativas de nomes que não me soavam bem, lembrei-me que “A Place for Twiggs” seria o mais indicado, uma vez que me sentia à procura de um lugar para mim no mundo!

De tudo o que fazes/escreves para o blog qual é o teu artigo favorito?

Acho que cada vez que escrevo sobre Lisboa é a minha parte favorita! Não nasci cá, não sou “alfacinha de gema”, mas sinto-me isso! Defendo esta cidade com todas as forças e acho que é uma das cidades mais bonitas do mundo e não há discussão aqui! Temos uma cidade lindíssima, com uma vida social agitada e gosto da nossa cultura social, de aproveitar as esplanadas, os cafés, os restaurantes e a rua. E gosto muito de partilhar o mais gosto de fazer por cá!

O que é que te diferencia?

Ah bolas, esta é difícil! Bem sinceramente à primeira vista diria que o que me diferencia é a voz independente e diversificada. Não falo apenas de fotografia ou de um outro tema específico, embora claro a fotografia seja um tema sempre presente. Gosto de acreditar que quem gosta de ler o meu blog o faz porque sabe que encontra fotografias interessantes, descobre mais sobre Lisboa, descobre outros criativos por esse mundo fora e também porque gosta de ouvir a minha experiência em assumir e fazer crescer o meu próprio projecto a tempo inteiro! 

Quais as plataformas web onde divulgas o teu trabalho?

The usual suspects – Facebook, Twitter e Pinterest! Mas depois faço sempre ligação para o Google +, Stumbleupon e ainda submeto alguns artigos no Craftgawker, que se tem revelado uma ferramenta fabulosa!

Lês outros blogs? Enumera três que te sejam indispensáveis.

Olha sinceramente leio e não leio. Tenho uma lista enorme de blogs diversificados, uns mais generalistas, uns de decoração, outros de fotógrafos que admiro imenso... uns em português, outros em inglês e uma série deles em línguas que não sei falar! Mas o mais comum é ter perto de 1000 itens para ler (os que usam o Google Reader sabem o que é isto!!), porque não consigo ter tempo para os ler. De duas em duas ou de três em três semanas, lá faço a limpeza e leio por alto alguns posts. Gosto sempre dos que são mais independentes e pessoais, como o da Sandra Juto por exemplo! 

Completa as frases:

a) Quando era pequena queria ser não queria ser nada, queria ir... para NYC! Lembro-me de ter 6 anos e afirmar convictamnete “não quero casar, quero ir viver para NYC!” acho que achava que lá ninguém se casava!   

b) Todos os dias passeio o meu cão! É o meu amigo inseparável e estou muito grata por termos trazido este rapaz para a nossa família!    

c) Sorrio sempre que ah aqui é quase sempre. Sou uma sorridente e uma simpática! :p

d) Não vivo sem os meus dois rapazes – o humano e o canino! São os meus mais-que-tudo! Incentivam-me, fazem-me companhia, fazem-me rir, fazem-me sair de casa todos os dias e conhecem-me melhor do que ninguém!

Onde é que te vês daqui a cinco anos?

Não sei onde, mas espero que a fazer o que faço agora, ainda melhor e de forma ainda mais estável, mas sempre com lugar a novas aventuras e desafios! O mais gosto em fazer o que faço é que não aprendi formalmente, mas fui aprendendo sempre à medida do que era necessário. Isto faz com que me sinta fora da minha zona de conforto quase diariamente e quando olho para trás sinto um enorme orgulho em ter aprendido tanto nestes últimos dois anos, portanto que assim continue e possa continuar a fazer o que me apaixona! 

Claudia is one of those people that put a smile in your face - not only she is one the nicest people I know but also for her talent - she is a great photographer! I met her the first time at a crafts fair in Lisbon and there we wer chatting as if we have known each other for a long time. It's interesting this sort of empathy that grows with someone you only know from the blogs. Today we are going to meet her at this week's Meet the Blogger.   
  
Why the name of your blog and how did it come up?

Well, when I decided to have a blog it wasn't easy to find the right name. I didn't even know what I was going to write about or what I was going to make with it. By then I didn't know that many blogs to seek for inspiration. On the other side my creative mind was coming out and I felt professionaly lost. Going out of Lisbon by myself only with my camera to shoot some photos was what I loved the most. I was rediscovering Lisbon with my eyes wide open! And this was when I decided I wanted to start a blog and after two or three attempts I remembered the name " A Place for Twiggs" which fitted my purposes, as I was looking for a place for me in the world!

From everything what you do/write for the blog which is your favourite item?
I love everytime I write about Lisbon! I wasn't born here, but I feel a "Lisboner"! I stand for it all the time and I think Lisbo is one of the most beautiful cities in the world - point made! no discussion! We have a beautiful city, full of social life, I love our culture, the terraces, the cafes, the restaurants and the streets. I love to share what I make here. 

What makes you stand out of the crowd?
Gosh, this is a difficult one! Honnestly what makes me different is my independent and varied voice. I don't stick to one subject only but it's obvious that photography comes in first place. I like to think that those who read my blog do it because they find here interesting photos, find out more about Lisbon or about other creative minds from around the globe and also because they like to hear about my experience on developing and growing my own business.

Where on the web can we read you?
The usual places - Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. But then I connect everything to Google + and Stumbleupon. I also submit some of articles to Craftgawker, which is an excellent tool! 

Do you read other blogs? Please name three of your preference.
Honnestly I read without reading. I have a long list of many different blogs - decoration, photography, some in Portuguese, other in English and many others in languages I can't read! But it's usual to have more than 1000 posts to read (those who use Google reader know what I mean!!!) because I haven't got time for all of them. Every two or three weeks I do a "spring clean" and I end up reading some posts. I prefer the more independent ones and personal, like Sandra Juto's one for example.

Complete the sentences:

a) When I was a little girl I didn't want to be anything, I wanted to go ... to NYC! I remember being 6 and saying "I don't want to get married, I want to go to NYC!" - I think that I thought that there noone got married.
b) Everyday I walk my dog! He's my best friend and I'm glad we brought it to our family!
c) I smile everytime I ...well, always! I'm always smiling and nice :-P
d) I can't live without my two boys - a human and a dog! They are my everything. They encourage me, they keep me company, they make me laugh, they make me go out everyday and they know me better than anyone else in the world. 

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
I don't know where, but I hope to be doing what I do now, in a better way and more regularly, but always with new adventures and chalenges. What I like most about what I do is that I didn't take any degree, I've been learning with time and experience. Somehow this makes me feel out of my comfort zone on a daily basis and when I look back I'm proud of myself and of everything I learnt in these last couple of years, therefore I must go on doing what I really love!

Easter bonnet parade

No ano passado pediram-me que fizesse um chapéu que celebrasse a Páscoa e a chegada da Primavera para a C. levar para o colégio e eu fiz este - que na minha opinião ficou um mimo. Mas qual não foi a surpresa quando verificámos que todos os outros chapéus eram muito mais elaborados e até apalhaçados... Este ano já não me apanharam desprevenida e em vez da versão "Ascot" resolvi enveredar pela versão "Chico Bento" :-D

Ficou engraçado e bem colorido, como se quer, mas continuo a preferir o do ano passado... Com a agravante que à conta da cola quente queimei as pontas dos dedos da mão esquerda e fiz uma valente queimadura na mão direita :-(

Last year I was asked to make a bonnet to celebrate Easter and the Spring for C. to take to school and I made this one - which I think looks lovely. But for our astonishment all the other hats were much more exotic and somehow "clownish"... This year I was asked to make another one but this time I thought that instead of going for an "Ascott" version I would go for a "Chico Bento" (a brasilian cartoon) one :-)

It looks funny and colourful, as required, but I still prefer last year's... The worst part was that I got burn with  hot glue: three fingers on my left hand and a deep burnt on my right hand :-(

Playing with simple shapes

A primeira vez que experimentei fazer uns carimbos usei apenas o que tinha à mão: um X-acto e algumas borrachas quadradas que comprei no supermercado, que por serem demasiado moles acabaram por não resistir muito tempo. Sabia que havia esta borracha própria da Speedball, mas encomendá-la pare ser entregue em Portugal não valia o preço da brincadeira, assim quando a encontrei aqui à venda não hesitei em comprar um pequeno bloco para experimentar. Isto aconteceu há cerca de um ano e esta semana resolvi voltar a investir o meu tempo nesta matéria.

Com excepção do novelo de linha com agulha que me levou algum tempo a esculpir, todas as outras formas são simples e super versáteis - quem disse que o simples não é bonito?

Que outras formas acham que vale a pena experimentar? 

The first time I tried to make some rubber stamps I used very simple materials: a pen knife and a few rubbers I brought from the supermarket - which were too soft and the stamps didn't last long. I knew that this Speedball rubber was available in the market but the shipping cost to Portugal wasn't worst it. So, about a year ago, when I arrived in London and saw it for sale at an arts shop I bought a small block so I could play with it. This week I decided to give it another try.

I carved the yarn ball with the hook and that took me a few hours to make it, but all the other stamps are simple shapes with wich I can play with - they are super simple and versatile.

What other shapes do you think I should try?

Pretty Pastels

Quando na semana passada partilhei convosco os materiais com que iria fazer "qualquer coisa", confesso que ainda não tinha em mente o que sairia daqui.

A Gabriela pediu-me que fizesse algo inspirado no bordado português. Fui buscar ideias aos corações de Viana - mas não o fiz com o bico torcido -  e aos lenços dos namorados - mas usei palavras minhas e sem erros ortográficos. Quis também fugir das cores tradicionais - azuis e vermelhos - e optei por um conjunto de tons pastel.

E a cereja no topo do bolo? A fita com motivo chevron que veio de oferta com a Mollie Makes - não é que é mesmo nas cores das linhas? Não podia deixar de lhe dar uso e forrei o aro exterior do bastidor. Acho que ficou amoroso.

O que vos parece?

When last week I shared with you the materials I was going to use for this week's project I didn't have a clue of what I was going to make.

Gabriela had asked me to make somenting inspired by the portuguese style embroidery. I Got some ideas from the heart motifs from Viana do Castelo - however I decided to go for a straight heart instead of a twisted one - and from the "Lenços dos Namorados" - but I used my own words and I avoided the spelling mistakes which are characteristic from the handkerchifs mentioned above. Regarding the colours, instead of using the traditional ones - blues and reds - I went for a pastel palette.

And now the cherry on top of the cake - the chevron ribbon that came as a freebie with this month's Mollie Makes is exactly the colours I chose for the embroidery. I had to use it! So I covered the outside of the embroidery loop with it. I think this looks lovely.

Custard cake

Anteontem acordei com uma vontade imensa de meter a mão na massa, resolvi então experimentar fazer um destes bolos com duas camadas que se vê por aqui e que têm um aspecto muito guloso - confesso que nunca os provei, mas têm um ar tãoooooo delicioso...

Passos a dar: 

1. comprar duas ou três coisas que eu sabia que não tinha;

2. ir à internet à procura de uma receita de sponge cake - que não é bem a mesma coisa que o nosso pão-de-ló;

3. fazer o bolo!

O resultado foi este: Custard Sponge Cake - receita da Nigell Lawson com uma cobertura feita a olho à base de queijo creme, iogurte grego, ovos e açúcar.

Sabem o que me ficou a faltar? E que ainda falta... Um bonito prato de pé Bordallo Pinheiro.

  

On Thursday I woke up with a stong need for baking, so I decided to make a two layer cake, like the ones I see around here and that look delicious - I've never eat them, but they look soooooo good...

Things to do:

1. to go out and buy a few things that were missing;

2.look up on the internet for a sponge cake recipe;

3. bake the cake!

This is how it came out: Custard Sponge Cake - Nigella Lawson's recipe and for the filling/icing I just mixed up the following ingredients: cream cheese, greek yoghurt, eggs and sugar.

In the end there was only one thing missing: a beautiful Rafael Bordallo Pinheiro cake stand to lay the cake.

Voltar às aulas significa ter coisas para estudar e trabalhos de casa para fazer e se o da semana passada foi fácil, o desta não é assim tão simples quanto parece, pois tenho de escolher entre as dezenas de blogs de que gosto apenas oito e explicar o porquê.

Gosto das cores - rosa! - e do layout do blog. É bastante claro e o topo da barra lateral direita encaminha-nos para o que interessa. A Sofia escreve com o coração e tem uma noção de styling e harmonia que é uma inspiração. As fotos, do André, apresentadas são criteriosamente escolhidas e não importa que sejam 10 ou sejam 20 fico sempre com vontade de ver mais.

La Tartine Gourmande

A expressão "os olhos comem mais que a barriga" faz jus a este blog. A disposição, em grelha, dos posts com uma fotografia correspondente fazem-me querer ver tudo! Os separadores no topo tornam a escolha do tema muito claro bem como todas as plataformas de social media do lado esquerdo.

Knitting on trains

Adoro o header deste blog, e desde logo ficamos a saber quem está por trás de tão bonito trabalho. Os textos são longos qb e a variedade de temas afasta a monotonia. Gosto também das fotos e da sua disposição.

Small Fry

Duas colunas e that's it! Simples, despretensioso, divertido - as ilustrações no header e marcadores são giríssimas. Gosto muito do final e do início de cada post e o modo como estas duas partes se encaixam perfeitamente uma na outra. Os textos e as fotos são de ficar a olhar...

Poppytalk

O slideshow abaixo do header faz-nos prever o que está para baixo e isso é fantástico. As imagens são de muito boa qualidade e acho imensa piada ao texto nas mesmas, que lhes dá um toque especial. É tudo muito claro e fácil de encontrar. Confesso que há uma coisa de que não sou fã: a publicidade aleatória entre os posts...mas consigo conviver com isso!

This is a portuguese weddings blog. I love the colours - pink! - and the layout of the blog. It's very clear where to find André and Sofia on the right handside bar. Sofia writes straight from the heart and her notion of styling is trully inspiring. Andre´s photos are just something! and the ones they choose for the blog are really fantastic. No matter if the post has 10 or 20 photos - I never get tired of looking at them.

La Tartine Gourmande

Your eyes eat more than what your mouth can chew  when you look at this blog. The way the posts are displayed so you can look at a certain number of them without having to scroll down and the photos make me want to click on all of them. The pages on the top are easy to follow if you want to read about something specific and the social media buttons on the left are also well positioned.

Knitting on trains

I love this blog header! And from the begining we know the face behind such a pretty work. The posts are just as long as one can read without getting fed up and the variety of themes makes me want return over and over again. I also like the photos and the way they are displayed.

Two collumns and that's it! Simple and funny - the illustrations on the header and on the side bar are great. I very much like the way the end of a post connects to the beginning of the next one - it flows naturally. The images and the texts are just something...

The slideshow right unde the header is fantastic as it gives you a preview of the posts you are about to read. The images are of very high quality and I love the way text is added to them - it really makes them special. Everything is clear and well organised which makes it very easy to find where the things are. There's just one thing I don't really fancy: the advertising between each post...but I can live with that!

Everything here is so pretty and simple, and neat... The logo and the social media buttons make a statement on the top. And I love the way Jeanette writes - she writes poetry instead of a normal text, and that is so beautiful!

A Sofia é quase uma conterrânea e no círculo de pessoas que conhecemos "da terra" há algumas em comum, inclusivamente uma ex professora de Alemão que tive no liceu e da qual me escondia atrás do gradeamento - como se um gradeamento me ocultasse LOL!!! Tem um sorriso contagiante e uma família giríssima. Das suas mãos saem peças muito giras e neste inverno não deu mãos a medir com as encomendas de golas-capuzes - são um verdadeiro sucesso!

Vamos conhecê-la um pouco melhor?

Porquê o nome do blog e como é que surgiu?

O nome do blog surgiu de uma brincadeira entre amigos. Neste grupo somos duas Anas Sofias e quando foi preciso distinguir uma da outra, houve alguém que disse - isso foi a Sofia, a algarvia. 

Sou muito bairrista, não gosto de ouvir dizer mal da minha terra e sempre que posso defendo-a com unhas e dentes, onde quer que vá faço sempre questão de dizer que sou algarvia. 

Na escolha de um nome para o blog, lembrei-me deste e assim ficou.

De tudo o que fazes/escreves para o blog qual é o teu artigo favorito?
Não tenho favoritos, sou uma sonhadora, vivo de fases. Ora passo por uma fase em que gosto imenso de escrever e desabafo tudo o que me vai na alma, para dentro do blog... ora passo pela fase de costurar, costurar, costurar e nascem porta-moedas, carteiras, capas de livros, babetes, etc... Ou então, como aconteceu ultimamente, só me apetece tricotar e agarrei num modelo de golas-capuz, fiz de vários tamanhos e cores até me cansar! Estou agora a querer mudar de fase... o que virá a seguir?

O que é que te diferencia?
Não sei, nunca pensei muito nisso, porque faço o que gosto, quando gosto. Talvez seja mesmo isso que me diferencia, como me envolvo de forma entusiástica no trabalho que tenho em mãos, falo dele com emoção e quem me lê, sente o mesmo entusiasmo que eu.

Quais as plataformas web onde divulgas o teu trabalho?
Comecei em 2009, pelo blog, em 2010 aderi ao Flickr, em 2011 abri uma página no Facebook, onde tenho uma presença muito assídua, com mais de 2000 seguidores. Ainda em 2011 também foi o ano em que apostei na abertura de uma loja online na plataforma Etsy , que me tem possibilitado vender alguns artigos para fora do nosso país e até para outros continentes. E no ano passado encantei-me com o Pinterest.

Leio muitos blogs portugueses, ingleses, americanos, alemães. O teu é um dos meus blogs indispensáveis, gosto das tuas partilhas sobre Londres, das obras que nascem nas tuas mãos e das tuas belas fotografias. Não perco o blog da Rita Domingues, 'The Busy Woman And The Stripy Cat' , serve-me como guia para tentar atingir os meus objectivos pessoais: focar, organizar, destralhar. E gosto imenso do blog da Alicia Paulson - 'Posie gets Cozy' , a forma como ela escreve e partilha a sua vida nas fotografias faz-me sonhar que um dia deixarei a minha vida séria de 'trabalhadora por conta de outrém' para uma vida sem boss, e à minha medida!

a) Quando era pequena queria ser... educadora de infância. Mais tarde quis ser jornalista e depois passei a querer ser tradutora. Não sou nada disso, embora tenha feito a minha Licenciatura em Tradução nunca exerci actividade nessa área profissional. Como sabes, trabalho na Banca, mais precisamente na área de compras online, também designado por e-commerce.
b) Todos os dias ... acordo cheia de vontade que querer mudar o Mundo, todos os dias sinto saudades da voz da minha Mãe, todos os dias penso que deveria ser Verão o ano inteiro, mas depois lembro-me que raramente tricoto no Verão, por isso dou graças a Deus pelo frio, porque assim tenho mais motivos para agarrar nas agulhas e nos fios.
c)  Sorrio sempre que ... vejo uma cara alegre à minha frente, principalmente se estiver a ser atendida por gente simpática e educada.
d)   Não vivo sem... as minhas filhas, dias de férias, um bom filme, um bom livro, um amor próximo e sincero.

 Onde é que te vês daqui a cinco anos?
Não faço a mínima ideia... Há 5 anos não imaginava que hoje estaria a responder-te, nem sequer que te iria conhecer, acho que ainda não tinha descoberto o teu blog, que na altura era a 4 mãos. Acredito que desde que tenha saúde, família e amigos, daqui a 5 anos estarei bem acompanhada e a fazer algo que goste, que envolva agulhas, com tecido, ou com fios, quase de certeza! 

Sofia was born not very far from me but we only met a couple of years ago. However there are people that we both know from when we were teenagers, as for example my German teacher from highschool from whom I used to hide behind the bars of the school gate (just as if she would's see me... silly me! LOL) She's always smiling and she's got such a beautiful family. She makes very nice things and this winter she's been knitting like mad to deliver her best seller hoods - a major hit!!!

Why the name of the blog and how did it come up?
The name came up from my group of friends. There are two Ana Sofia and when it was necessary to say who was who, one of my friends said - ahh that was Sofia, the Algarvia (which means from the Algarve - a region south of Portugal). I love my roots and I can't bare people saying bad things abut the place where I come from so I'm a big defensor, and wherever I go I always say that I'm from the Algarve.
When I had to choose a name for the blog, this was the one. 

From everything you write or make for the blog which is your favourite item?
I haven't got any favourites, I'm a dreamer and I have temporary passions. One day I write a lot and put everything out of my mouth on the blog, the next day I sew, sew, sew like mad and I make book covers, purses, bibs, etc. Or as it happened recently I just want to knit - I got this hood patternd and knitted until I was tired: I made hoods in all colours and sizes! Now I need a change, but who knows what comes next?

What makes you stand out of the crowd?
I don't know. I've never thought about that - perhaps the fact that I make what I like, when I feel like. Maybe that's it - I get so involved with what I'm making that I speak about it passionatly and people who read me can feel it too. 

Where, in the web can we find you?
I started in 2009 with my blog, then I joined Flickr. In 2011 I started an FB page where I am most of the time and where I gathered over 2000 followers. Also in 2011 I opened my Etsy shop which made possible to reach other countries. Last year I fell in love with Pinterest.

Do you read other blogs? Pleas name three of your preference.
I do read a lot of blogs - portuguese, english, american and german ones. Yours is one of my favourites, I love what you share about London, the thinsgs you make and your beautiful photos. I do not miss Rita's blog, The Busy Woman and the Strypy Cat, which helps me to keep focused on my goals. And I also love Alicia Paulson's blog Posie gets Cozy - the way she writes and shares her life through the photos makes me dream that one day I will be able to drop my day job and become my own boss!

a) When I was a little girl... I wanted to be a nursery teacher. Later I wanted to become a journalist and only then I thought of being a certified translator. None of these is my reality, although I finished my MA in Ttranslation and I've never had a job in the area. I work in a bank at the e-commerce department.
b) Every day I .. wake up willing to change the world; missing my Mother; thinking that it should be Summer throughout the year, but then I remember that I don't knit over the Summer so I'm thankful for the Winter which gives me more reasons to work with a pair of needles and yarn.
c) I smile everytime I ... see a happy face in front of me, especially if I'm being served by someone nice.
d) I can't live without... my daughters, a holidays, a good movie, a good book, a close and sincere love. 

Where do you see yourself in five years time?
I haven't got a clue... Five years ago I wouldn't imagine that I was answering to this interview, not even that I would meet you - I think I didn'0t even know your blog that by then was written by four hands. I believe that as long as there is health, family and friends in five years from now I'll be among them and doing somenting I love, surrounded by needles, fabrics or yarns - that is for sure!
